Historical Background

  • Built in 1923 by Albert Wilder Taylor, an American journalist and businessman
  • Home to Albert Taylor, who reported on the March 1st Independence Movement in 1919
  • Taylor was imprisoned for six months for assisting Korean independence activists
  • The Taylors lived there until 1942 when they were expelled by Japanese colonists

  • Rediscovered in 2005 by Bruce Taylor, Albert’s son
  • Designated as Registered Cultural Heritage No. 687 in August 2017
  • Restored by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and opened as a museum on March 1, 2021
  • Features exhibitions on the Taylors’ life in Korea and Albert’s journalistic activities
