- Meaning of name : Palace of Heart’s Delight in Sanskrit. This name was chosen by Mary Taylor, the wife of Albert Taylor.
Historical Background
- Built in 1923 by Albert Wilder Taylor, an American journalist and businessman
- Home to Albert Taylor, who reported on the March 1st Independence Movement in 1919
- Taylor was imprisoned for six months for assisting Korean independence activists
- The Taylors lived there until 1942 when they were expelled by Japanese colonists
Rediscovered in 2005 by Bruce Taylor, Albert’s son- Designated as Registered Cultural Heritage No. 687 in August 2017
- Restored by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and opened as a museum on March 1, 2021
- Features exhibitions on the Taylors’ life in Korea and Albert’s journalistic activities
